Investigate

Reach out and touch our stimulating specimens in the Museum's hands-on science centre. Adults and children aged seven to 14 will enjoy handling the animal, plant and geological treasures stored here.

Investigate is free for everyone, Admission is set aside for school visits on weekday mornings during school terms.

Please note that the Investigate centre will be closed for gallery maintenance on the last Thursday of each month from 2.30pm, except when this falls in a school holiday. For full details please contact the Museum bookings office on +44 (0) 20 7942 5555.

  • Other visitors are welcome 14.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday during term-time, andĀ 11.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday in the school holidays. Last entry is at 16.30.
  • Weekend opening times are 11.00 to 17.00. Last entry is at 16.30.
  • Investigate is in the Clore Education Centre in the Museum's basement.
  • At busy times you may be given a ticket and asked to come back at a later time, so please allow time in your visit for this.
  • Investigate can be booked forĀ school visits.

Specimens range from a mounted puma to a meteorite as old as the Earth itself. There's a courtyard garden and a live area , which uses seasonal changes to explore living organisms, from tadpoles to fungi.

Study the specimens of your choice in greater depth using microscopes, the Investigate computer database and other scientific instruments. Our 'explainers' are always on hand to support and guide your investigations.
