(Claw of Baryonyx walkeri) Baryonyx means 'heavy claw'. Unusually for a carnivorous dinosaur we know it ate fish as scientists have found fish scales and teeth with its fossil where its stomach would have been.

Marine Invertebrates gallery closure
The Marine Invertebrates gallery is closed after lunch on Wednesday 1 October  to do further work on the Nature Live kit.

Plant Power gallery closure
The Plant Power gallery closed on Tuesday 25 March to prepare for a new contemporary art commission. Ten artists have been shortlisted to design a new ceiling, known as Darwin's Canopy, in celebration of Charles Darwin’s bicentenary next year. Visit Darwin's Canopy exhibition to see proposals for the designs.

This gallery will open again in February 2009.

Meteorite gallery
The Meteorite gallery has closed. The Museum's collection of meteorites is now on display in The Vault, located in the Green Zone.

Until 1938 whale carcasses were buried in the Museum grounds so that their flesh would decay leaving only the skeletons.
