The Natural History Museum is one of the top museums of its kind in the world, a powerhouse of scientific research and a leading national tourist attraction. The Museum receives hundreds of enquiries every year from people of all ages interested in volunteering, work experience and work placements.
You can now search and apply directly online for volunteer opportunities that best suit your skills and interest at the Museum by selecting the Volunteering section below.
Our volunteering opportunities fall into the following categories:
For adults aged over 18. Volunteer placements may be available on a short or long-term basis.
For school students aged 15-18. Almost all placements are in the collections divisions of the science departments.
For higher education students aged over 18. Placements are requested as part of a formal course of study. See here for internships as well.
Our scientists study the snails that host the schistosomiasis parasite, which causes a disease that affects nearly 200 million people.
