The Natural History Museum is one of the top museums of its kind in the world, a powerhouse of scientific research and a leading national tourist attraction. The Museum receives hundreds of enquiries every year from people of all ages interested in volunteering, work experience and work placements.

Our volunteering opportunities fall into the following categories:

  • Man with collection drawers
    Volunteering

    For adults aged over 18. Volunteer placements may be available on a short or long-term basis.

  • Work experience
    Work experience

    For school students aged 15-18. Almost all placements are in the collections divisions of the science departments.

  • Man writing labels
    Work placements

    For higher education students aged over 18. Placements are requested as part of a formal course of study. See here for internships as well.
